When you can't decide what colour smoothie to have you can have both. Together. The basil, lime and lemongrass flavours are a refreshing wakeup call. They balance well with the subtly sweet strawberries and hydrating cucumber in the pink chia mix.
Depending on the sweetness of your strawberries, it may be advisable to include that optional date as the pink chia mix is really not very sweet.
All the extra superfood powders (lucuma, moringa, spirulina) are optional but if omitting lucuma do substitute with a little extra fruit or a small date as lucuma is included for its sweetness as well as high vitamin and antioxidant content.
Top with whatever nuts, seeds, fruits you are in the mood for and dig in. Tastes delicious with a handful of Paleo granola too... Or a square or two of Green & Blacks darkest x
Green & Pink: Basil Lime Smoothie and Strawberry Chia Breakfast Bowl
Grain-free, Gluten-free, Dairy-free, Refined Sugar-free, Nut-free
Makes 2 bowls
Ingredients:
Mr Green:
Strawberries, basil leaves, cacao nibs, bee pollen, freeze dried strawberry pieces, pumpkin seeds, edible flowers
Instructions:
1. In a high powered blender make Mr Pink by blending together all ingredients until smooth, starting with 1/2 cup coconut milk and adding more if needed. Set aside for chia seeds to absorb liquid while making Mr Green .
2. In a separate (or clean) high powered blender, repeat step 1 with the green ingredients.
3. Simultaneously pour Mr Green and Mr Pink into a serving bowl so that half is green, half is pink; then swirl together gently with the tip of a knife.
4. Top with toppings of choice and serve immediately.
** SIDE NOTE: I really enjoy my smoothies with little (no) added sweetness and I understand this may not (will not) be to the majority of people's liking. Therefore I suggest smoothies are sweetened to taste once blended with either extra frozen banana, a date or two, or even a little raw honey. I understand I am weird!
