Yin Yang Superfood Smoothie Bowl

Got to love the idea of healthy creativity instigated on Instagram by @amylecreations and @delicious_and_healthy_by_maya

Yin Yang Superfood Smoothie Bowl
This recipe was my contribution to their #howtomakeithealthier campaign; which conveniently coincides with #howtomakemehappier!
Though this is a cold smoothie bowl and therefore by rights a 'cooling' (or 'yin') bowl, the ginger and cinnamon offer a 'warming' ('yang') balance. Cooked beets also make them more warming than raw.

Makes 1 large bowl or 2 smaller bowls

Ingredients:
Purple Smoothie:
1 medium beet (cooked, peeled, cooled)
1/3 c frozen blueberries
1/3 c raw red cabbage
1 tbsp ground hemp seeds
1/2 inch piece fresh ginger (peeled)
1tbsp baobab
1tbsp cinnamon
3/4 c coconut milk

Green Smoothie:
1 large handful baby spinach
1/2 medium avocado
1/3 cup frozen courgette discs (zucchini)
5 frozen green grapes
1 tbsp maca
1 c coconut milk

Top:
bee pollen, goji berries, white and black sesame seeds and homemade chocolate bark (1tbsp melted coconut oil mixed with 1tbsp raw cacao then set in a silicone mould with cacao nibs, pistachios & coconut sprinkled on top)

Instructions:
1. Blend together all Green Smoothie ingredients and set aside.
2. In clean blender, blend together all Purple Smoothie ingredients.
3. Holding a smoothie in each hand pour both slowly and simultaneously into a cereal bowl so that approximately half is filled green, the other purple.
4. Swirl with a knife and scatter over toppings of choice.
5. Enjoy before the kids devour it first!
